Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Review

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a much needed breath of fresh air for the franchise. With noticeably better graphics and gameplay. You really feel like the developers tried to do something new this time.

But while the campaign is filled with iconic moments like the intense standoff with terrorists in the middle of a bustling London, or the claustrophobic stealth missions, the underlying story is not the best and you probably won’t remember it in t-minus one day. The amount of effort put into the multiplayer vs the campaign is clearly disproportionate, but at least it pays off because the multiplayer experience is probably the best I’ve had since MW2 2009.

The gunplay is more balanced and less spastic, there are no buggy perks like commando and you can’t spam kill-streaks. The Ground War and Warzone mode are major new additions to the game that completely change the way you play and add more of an epic EA Battlefield feel to call of duty for the first time ever. The only thing I don’t like is the lack of an emblem creator, and the default banners and emblems are very lacklustre.

Lastly, we have the co-op mode “Spec Ops” which returns from MW3. The core concept of battling waves of enemies before extracting in a helicopter remains the same, the maps this time around are HUGE, and you will have to traverse through many different areas along the way. One mission has you going from the parking lot of an airport, to inside the airport, to the runway, to inside a plane, then jumping out of that plane into another location, and so on and so on. It’s extremely challenging and will push you and your friends to the limit.

Ultimately MW is a welcome addition to the franchise that has rock-solid gameplay and brilliant game design. Don’t miss it!
